Things for the Kids

Whatever the weather, there’s always great fun things to do with the kids. Here are just a few of the many exciting family fun activities available within a short distance from Dartmouth.

Crabbing:

A favourite activity for children visiting Dartmouth is crabbing, with the South Embankment providing one of the best locations for kids to enjoy this fun thing to do with family and friends. Some even run competitions to see who can catch the most. Don’t worry if ​you are not equipped, many of our shops sell crabbing buckets and lines. Crabbing lines and fishing equipment are both available from the Visitor Centre.

Woodlands Theme Park:

Woodlands Family Theme Park is one of the largest theme parks in Devon, a fun filled family day out for everyone. From little kids to kid-ults there’s something for anyone and everyone! With one of the largest and best indoor play areas in the South West, amazing water rides, a zoo farm and much more, there’s fun to be had rain or shine. A great value family day out!

Pennywell Farm:

Pennywell Farm is the largest multi award winning farm attraction in the South West.​ There are different ​hands-on​ activities, shows and displays every half hour and four farm rides included in the admission price. Pennywell is also the home of the world famous Pennywell Miniature Pigs. There is a licensed restaurant, acres of free parking and free dog kennels provided for four legged visitors.

Paignton Zoo:

Paignton Zoo, just a few miles from Dartmouth, is one of the South West’s most exciting visitor attractions ​with over 2,500 animals across 80 acres – you’re in for a really wild ​and exciting​ time at Paignton Zoo. It’s a place to roam, discover and get in touch with your inner ​self.​ Get up close to some of the animal wonders of the world across ​their​ specially designed habitats – from the Savannah to the Wetlands and the tropical forest. Run wild in ​their ​play areas or hop aboard the​ unique ​‘Jungle Express’​ train to get even closer to the action. ​They​ are also a registered charity and part of a worldwide network of zoos which cares for and breeds rare species thanks to guests who help to fund ​their​ conservation work. Come rain or shine, Paignton Zoo is a fun filled day out for all the family, and you’ll need all day to see it all!

Babbacombe Model Village:

A miniature world of creative model scenes. ​Babbacombe Model Village is one of Torquay’s top attractions, set in 4.5 acres. Adults love the humorous representation of British life over the last six decades and the award-winning gardens. Children love all the miniature characters and enjoy following the spotter sheet to see what they can find (pick up your free spotter on arrival).

Kents Cavern Prehistoric Caves:

Multi award winning Kents Cavern is one of the most important Stone Age sites in Europe and one of Britain’s best showcaves! On your visit you will go back to a time when the cave was home to ancient humans, sheltering from extreme weather, making fires, shaping tools and hunting Ice Age animals. As you walk through the extensive labyrinth of caverns, you’ll be surrounded by 400 million year old rocks and spectacular stalagmites and stalactites.
