Shopping in the historic town of Dartmouth offers some relaxing retail therapy in its narrow streets, with an array of interesting shops, boutiques and fine art galleries. We are also blessed with many kinds of clothing retailers.

When you need a break from shopping, there are some wonderful cafes and tea rooms to provide you with some well-earned refreshments.

If ​you are​ shopping for gifts and souvenirs, ​there is ​a tremendous choice for special ways to take home a little piece of Dartmouth and unique items not available anywhere else.

One of the most iconic shopping areas is the Old Market Square. Built originally as a pannier market in 1828, where fresh dairy produce was sold with goods arriving on the backs of ponies every day from local farms. Many things have changed since then, but delicious fresh food still arrives from the same farms.

Nostalgically attractive, this listed building is the ideal place to find everything from gifts to take home, to pet food, fantastic local produce, health products, hardware, household goods, children’s clothes, plants, soft furnishings, jewellery and dress fabric to name but a few of the wide-ranging goods on offer. The Old Market is definitely the place to unwind and enjoy a bit of retail therapy. Every 4th Saturday there is an Artisan market and a ’Fatstock Market’ on the second Tuesday in December, a tradition for almost 100 years. Shops are open on Monday to Saturday, with an open market held every Tuesday and Saturday in the car park beside the square.
